NACHMO 2026 REGISTRATION

NACHMO Pittsburgh is a choreographic initiative that has been running since 2018 (2026 will be the 8th year!) and works to bring the spirit of NACHMO to life in the Steel City! NACHMO, which stands for National Choreography Month, was formed over a decade ago as a way to start the year by creating a new work in the month of January, getting choreographers out of the holiday slump that often happens in December. This January Challenge is initiated by the National Hub, and we operate to bring it to Pittsburgh and give a platform for these works to be presented.

We have high hopes of expanding what NACHMO can offer the Pittsburgh dance community, but for now we are committed to bringing the January Challenge to life in the new year!

The January Challenge

The January Challenge exists for anyone wanting to participate in creating a new work or re-examining an old work of choreography. No matter what style your dance medium is, we want you to use the choreographic prompts to challenge yourself in new ways, examining habits, and pushing your boundaries! Dance films are allowed, though only three will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

The idea is...we want you to create a short piece or a seed idea and we want to see your work!

Daily prompts designed to inspire movement creation will come from NACHMO National, be sure you are following them on social media! @nachmodance  

Weekly prompts designed to help you construct and refine your piece will come from us, so make sure you’re following our social media as well! @nachmopgh   

We want to see your progress and how these prompts change or affect your work via social media!
You will have the opportunity to present this new work at the final studio performance.

-All pieces must be under 5 minutes in length.

-Pieces can be in-person or via dance film format.

-Minimal tech/lighting is offered, this is a studio showing.

-Projection during live work is an option, however you will be responsible for managing your own projection/tech requirements.
